He graduated from the University of Heidelberg and trained in Pathology, Internal Medicine, Gastroenterology and Hepatology. He holds degrees from the University of Heidelberg, Frankfurt and the Technical University of Munich and currently is Adjunct Professor of Medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, New York.
