Overview

The knee is suseptible to a variety of injuries and degenerative disorders, and its increasingly the subject of complex surgical problems. For the majority of patients, recovery is uneventful, but for a significant percentage there are complications surrounding either the surgical procedures that are usually followed, or which arise in the post-operative period. This volume is part of the series Clinical Challenges in Orthopaedics. The objective of each volume is to present a picture of several challenging scenarios, illustrating a range of conditions in the round . Thus emulating the structure of the case conferences at which referrals are discussed by specialists from several departments, and options for their management identified. The authors review problems in both adults and children, including fractures and dislocations, repair and reconstruction of the anterior and posterior cruciate ligaments, total joint replacement and revision surgery, as well as peri- and post-operative complications. All sections share a common approach, integrating the disciplines of anatomy, pathology, diagnostic imaging and practical techniques, in a clinically relevant context.
