Reviews

This Book on Climate Change by Muthanna is a work of sheer brilliance and utmost importance. As he has rightly stated, policy makers have to act with a sense of urgency before the 'tipping point' is crossed and we are plunged into Climate Catastrophe. Muthanna has rightly pointed out that mitigation of Climate Change in the Himalayas and preparing for sea level rise should be the most immediate concerns. His initiative in preparing the HIMEK proposal as a regional cooperation of the eleven countries of the Himalayas and the contiguous Mekong basin is a path breaking venture where India must take the lead. Col Harbhajan Singh Chauhan, SM, VSM, FRGS The book has enumerated the impacts of the climate change like sea surges and suggested measures such as relocating vulnerable communities along the coastal regions and providing them with alternate means of livelihood. The suggestions given in the book would be very useful and important for policy makers, social workers and Governments.B K Singh, Former Principal Chief Conservator of Forests (Head of Forest Force) Karnataka This book by Col Muthanna presents looming threats of climate change in India which illustrate the challenges such as rising Sea levels, etc. The proposed region-specific land use planning with the climate-resilient mitigation and adaptation strategies would aid in ensuring the sustenance of food and water while ensuring security with minimal instances of disasters. The publication with case studies of Western Ghats and Himalayas, written lucidly, would help in sensitizing decision-makers of the 21st century to evolve strategies toward the prudent management of vital ecosystems. Dr TV Ramachandra, Coordinator, Energy & Wetlands Research Group, Centre for Ecological Studies, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore Book Review in Financial Times https: //www.financialexpress.com/lifestyle/book-review-climate-change-in-india-by-col-cp-muthanna-a-must-read-to-understand-how-development-and-climate-action-can-go-hand-in-hand/2465768
