Noted for the dark romanticism of his tales, he is best known for works such as The Scarlet Letter and short story collections such as Twice-Told Tales. Walter Crane (1845-1915) was a British artist who became renowned for his work during the Arts and Crafts Movement and especially for his illustrations for children's books. A student of the artist and critic John Ruskin, he was also influenced by artists such as William Morris.
