Over the 54-year span of her practice, she has explored multiple modes of subjectivity-inflected documentary photography through portraiture, urban landscapes and architectural interiors. Gutsche has exhibited extensively and her photographs are held in the collections of the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts, the Canadian Centre for Architecture, the National Gallery of Canada, and the Musée de la Photographie à Charleroi in Belgium, among other institutions. Her criticism has appeared in publications such as Photo communiqué, Vanguard, C Magazine and Canadian Art; in 2021 she contributed a chapter to Photogenic Montreal: Activisms and Archives in a Post-Industrial City.
