Joseph is a past President of the American College of Trial Lawyers and former Chair of the 60,000-member Section of Litigation of the American Bar Association. He served as President and currently is Chair of the Board of Trustees of the U.S. Supreme Court Historical Society. By appointment of the Chief Justice of the United States, he served for six years on the Advisory Committee on the Federal Rules of Evidence of the U.S. Judicial Conference. He is the author of three legal treatises: Sanctions: The Federal Law of Litigation Abuse (5th ed. 2013); Civil RICO: A Definitive Guide (5th ed. 2018); and Modern Visual Evidence (Supp. 2018).
