At age 33, he is now the UK managing director of a multi-million pound company dealing in all aspects of security in the post-9/11 world, including cyber awareness, people-trafficking and drug dealing. He has become a go-to expert for many organisations and governments and has spoken on these issues at the United Nations in New York. The success of private security teams has led to a sharp decline in pirate attacks in the Horn of Africa. But the threat has not gone forever. In the right political and economic circumstances, it could easily reawaken - in fact, sparks of activity have been recently reported.
