Pain management can be expensive as most insurance plans do not pay 100%. The patient on the other hand is a consumer. A patient needs to understand what treatments benefit the patient and which only benefit the physician. The only way a patient can accomplish this goal is to understand the cause of the pain and what treatments are medically necessary by reading this book. This book describes the pain source and what treatments are available. If a pain physician recommends an injection etc. the patient should be able to define the potential efficacy of the proposed treatment. This is the goal of this book. A patient needs to realize that modalities such as healthy nutrition, exercise, weight loss and smoking cessation are simple modalities which may reduce one's pain intensity. Therapy, chiropractic, acupuncture, regenerative treatments, biofeedback, etc., may also reduce some of pain. Chronic pain will usually not be completely resolved by any modality. The goal of pain management therefore, is pain reduction using a multidisciplinary approach.
