Overview"In his letter to the readers of this treatise Mr. Bunyan wrote, ""Of the many and singular advantages, therefore, that such have by this their Advocate in his advocating for them, this book gives some account; as, where he pleads, how he pleads, what he pleads, when he pleads, with whom he pleads, for whom he pleads, and how the enemy is put to shame and silence before their God and all the holy angels."" This treatise was published in London in 1689, one year after John Bunyan's death. Our edition of this work comes from George Offor's three-volume collection, The Whole Works of John Bunyan, published in Glasgow in 1862. After squandering much of his life away in worldly wantonness, Bunyan was converted to the Christian faith and would afterward become an excellent expositor of the Holy Scriptures. During the reign of Charles II he was imprisoned in November 1660 for the crime of preaching without a license from the state church, a violation of anit-Puritan ""Clarendon Code."" John Bunyan is considered one of the greatest of the Puritan writers and is most noted for his allegorical classic, THE PILGRIM'S PROGRESS. The editor, Jon Cardwell, has served the Lord as a missionary to the Philippines, as a pastor in California, and as a missionary-pastor in remote ""bush"" Alaska: to the Aleut people of King Cove and to the Yup'ik people of Scammon Bay. He has been ministering as pastor of Sovereign Grace Baptist Church in Anniston, Alabama since January 2009." Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
