Overview

Double crostic puzzles provide both the mental gymnastics of solving crossword-like clues and the literary pleasure of reading a quotation which we hope you value for its beauty, cleverness, or resounding truth. This collection offers fifty of the hundreds of double crostics constructed by K Watkins since she began adding puzzles to Sue Gleason's website in 2003. Solvers have described her work as witty and fun - unusual, tough, worthwhile - fascinating - the product of a strange and wonderful mind - delightful - crackerjack - a hoot!

Author Information

K Watkins grew up in a family which treasures puns. She started reading when she was three years old, wrote her first bad poetry about three years later, began attending rehearsals of the Colorado Shakespeare Festival at the age of ten, and eventually came up with a dissertation on narrative in Shakespeare's plays which resulted in a PhD from Yale. Her early memories include watching her mother solve the double crostics at the back of the *Saturday Review*. Decades later, she laboriously, clumsily created a few herself using pencil and paper - and, especially, eraser. What a thrill it was for her to discover Sue Gleason's website, complete with tools that computerize all the difficult mechanics of construction! Small wonder that K now delights in constructing double crostics.
