Prime: Beginning with her first visit to China in 1976, Dr. Prime has more than four decades of experience studying the dynamic Chinese economy. After majoring in Chinese studies and studying Mandarin as an undergraduate, she earned a Ph.D. in economics at the University of Michigan. She is Founding Director of the China Research Center and Managing Editor of China Currents. Dr. Prime was Clinical Professor in the Institute of International Business, J. Mack Robinson College of Business, Georgia State University from 2012 to 2020; professor at Mercer University, 2006 to 2012, earning tenure; and professor at Kennesaw State University, 1991 to 2006, earning tenure. Between 1987 and 2009 she co-developed and led an eleven-week, study abroad with Carleton College to Asia and China. This seminar occurred eight times, involving 40 students each time. She has also taught at Emory University and Duke Kunshan University as a visiting professor. Dr. Prime's research focuses on China's economy and business environment, including China's foreign trade and investment, domestic market reforms, and provincial and local-level development. James R. Schiffman: Dr. Schiffman is an Associate Professor in the Communication Department at Georgia College & State University in Milledgeville, Georgia. Previously, he served as Chief Copy Editor at CNN International, where he was involved in editorial decision making, network style, hiring, and training. Prior to joining CNN, Dr. Schiffman was a staff correspondent for The Wall Street Journal in Atlanta and The Asian Wall Street Journal in Hong Kong, Seoul, and Beijing. As a correspondent in Beijing between 1986 and 1988, Dr. Schiffman reported extensively on Chinese economic reforms, the role of foreign investment, and Chinese politics and culture at a time of rapid change and turmoil. Dr. Schiffman speaks Mandarin Chinese, and lectures occasionally to academic and community groups.
