OverviewI've spent over two decades studying, living, and working in China's automotive industry. This book is what I wish someone had given me when I started. After completing my degree in East Asian Studies and Political Science, I moved to Beijing in 2009. I witnessed first-hand China's transformation from a tech-transfer economy to what I call a ""Startup Super Nation"", evident in both its domestic successes and its new role on the global stage. Today, I run Nugentis Group, which I founded to provide consulting in the automotive sector and manage energy storage projects. I've worked across China, Latin America, and Israel, which gave me a rare perspective: part insider, part outsider. I bring a blend of insider access and outsider clarity. Here's what actually happened, and why it matters. Most analysis of China's EV revolution comes from people who observed it from conference rooms in Detroit or newsrooms in New York, of people who do not necessarily live in China or speak Chinese. Others, including Chinese journalists, may speak with industry people but were not in the negotiation room. I watched it unfold from inside Chinese factories, at auto shows in Shanghai, and in boardrooms across three continents. The Chinese EV industry shifted course as quickly as a speedboat despite being as big as an aircraft carrier. How? It wasn't just government subsidies nor cheap labor. It was strategic learning, key acquisitions, and a new generation of entrepreneurs who understood something Western companies missed. What you'll find in this book: 1. Why Chinese startups outpaced global giants - The specific decisions that let companies like NIO, BYD, and Xpeng leapfrog established players. It's a story of strategic learning, not just copying. 2. How China evolved from assembling others' inventions to driving innovation itself - Through strategic learning, key acquisitions, and a generation of daring entrepreneurs, China transformed. I'll show you the pattern. 3. What this means for the global automotive landscape - Chinese EVs are expanding into Latin America, Europe, and beyond. Whether you're in energy, tech, mobility, or policy, this reshapes your playing field. This isn't just another ""China strategy"" book. I don't presume to teach the Chinese about their own industry. Instead, I'm bridging perspectives. This book blends stories, strategy, and theory to help you understand what's happening-and what's next. You'll walk away with: A clear framework for understanding China's automotive transformation Strategic tools applicable to mobility, innovation, and geopolitics Real-world examples from someone who was there A curated bibliography and an online learning hub for deeper exploration Who this is for: If you're in the automotive industry, energy sector, technology, or mobility-or if you're an investor, strategist, or policymaker trying to navigate the shifting global landscape-this book gives you the context and frameworks you need. If you're simply curious about how the world's largest automotive market became its most innovative, you'll find it engaging and accessible. Why I wrote this: The auto shows are the times for revelations and eureka moments. The next part of my book was added during the last auto show of 2025, with eyes toward 2026. I realized the story needed to be told-not from an academic distance, but from someone who lived it. I hope this book gives you awareness you didn't have before. More than anything, I hope it's interesting and valuable to read. Whether you're competing with Chinese companies, investing in the EV ecosystem, or simply trying to make sense of this tectonic shiftת this is your shortcut to understanding a new world order on wheels Full Product DetailsAuthor: Hagai GatPublisher: Shifting Phoenix Imprint: Shifting Phoenix Dimensions: Width: 17.80cm , Height: 1.10cm , Length: 25.40cm Weight: 0.381kg ISBN: 9789659326716ISBN 10: 9659326718 Pages: 214 Publication Date: 16 February 2026 Audience: General/trade , General Format: Paperback Publisher's Status: Active Availability: Available To Order We have confirmation that this item is in stock with the supplier.
