Overview

Bad Reichenhall - Salzburg - Traunstein - Berchtesgadener Land - Chiemgauer Alpen - Rupertiwinkel The Chiemgau, as well as the neighbouring regions of Inntal, Salzkammergut, Salzburger Land and Tirol, stand for beautiful landscapes, relaxing holidays, warm bathing lakes, lush green alpine pastures, flowering meadows, healthy aromatic air and many cycle paths. The Chiemsee, as well as dozens of small lakes in the area to the north of it, is a remnant of the Inn glacier. The ice created the hollow surrounded by debris moraines in which water could remain. The lake was originally larger, but large areas have since become swampy and silted up or have been drained during cultivation. Nevertheless, the area around the lake is still characterised by wetlands. The most important tributaries are the Tiroler Achen - its estuary in the south is a nature reserve - and the Prien from the Priental. In the north, in Seebruck, the Alz provides the outflow. The colonisation of its islands began in the 7th and 8th centuries. But the real discovery of the lake was made by the artists (Chiemsee painters) of the early 19th century, who explored the Alpine foothills from Munich and thus also founded tourism. In the Chiemsee area, the landscape and the enchanting views over the lake are particularly impressive. In addition to Seeon Monastery and Amerang Castle, the Roman Museum in Seebruck is worth a visit. We recommend trips to Baumburg Monastery in Altenmarkt an der Alz and to the Ratzinger Höhe, from where you have a far-reaching view of the Chiemgau. Wasserburg am Inn has a lovely old town. Altötting is the oldest and most famous place of pilgrimage in Bavaria. Visits to Tittmoning, Traunstein and Burghausen with the longest castle complex in Europe, as well as the numerous monasteries and churches, or a swim in the climatic health resort of Waging am See should not be missed. Salzburg - this wonderfully lively city - is the home of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. On the Benedict Trail you will pass several important stations in the life of Pope Benedict XVI. In the last section of the Lake Constance-Königssee cycle path, the mountains become higher and the deep blue, glittering mountain lakes deeper. You cycle further into the Berchtesgaden National Park, where the enchanting Königssee awaits you as the destination of this cycle tour. The Mozart Cycle Path connects the historically significant Mozart city of Salzburg on the banks of the Salzach with the popular holiday regions of Tyrol, Salzburger Land and Bavaria. Cycle paths and routes with information about surface and traffic density. Selected street names. Precise gradient and distance information. Selection of the most important tourist information. Waterproof and tear-resistant paper. Thoroughly researched and permanently updated. With the cartographic route information you can start your trip confidently, because all the necessary information is already compiled for you: road surface (paved or unpaved), traffic density, hill slopes, distance information tourist infrastructure such as inns and lodging establishments, as well as the cultural and scenic attractions of the region.
