Author Information

Jennifer is passionate about the story that shapes us, and imagination that allows us to create magic through story telling.Jennifer has grown up hearing stories from her Maltese family who migrated from Egypt. Conversation around the table was usually in Italian, peppered with a variety of other languages as 'only that word would do'. Sometimes Greek, Maltese, French or Arabic words would take the stage! Her love of words and their sonority led to studies in Linguistics, Italian, French and Spanish. Jennifer has worked as an interpreter, translator and teacher. Jennifer has travelled extensively and still enjoys listening to story, told in its native language. Jennifer lives in Melbourne, in a leafy suburb and writes to the music of gangs of cockatoos and her neighbour's chickens. Nicole Eykman is an illustrator and fine art painter who loves bringing stories to life through her artwork. With a background in fine art painting and years of experience teaching art to primary and secondary students, Nicole has developed a strong sense of how children see the world. Now a young mother, she finds endless inspiration in her own child's imagination, turning playful moments into colourful, engaging illustrations. Her work blends creativity with warmth, aiming to capture the magic of childhood and connect with both children and parents. Nicole's goal is to create pictures that spark curiosity, encourage storytelling, and make reading a joyful experience for families.
