He was in high school when Bobby Fischer played Boris Spassky for the world chess championship, and was part of the huge upsurge of interest in the game at that time. College years led to opportunities to begin tournament play and to learn more of the history and theory of chess. After doing undergraduate work at Southern Nazarene University, Styers completed a Ph.D. in religious studies at Boston University and an M.A. in English at the University of Texas of the Permian Basin. While writing articles and devotionals for religious markets, Dr. Styers began developing the chess-themed pieces that became Chess Devotionals. A former pastor, teacher, and journalist, he now works in private industry, but still contributes papers to scholarly conferences. He lives in his native Oklahoma with his wife and their three children. Tab Content 6Author Website:Countries AvailableAll regions |
