He worked as a research assistant at the HUB, before starting his research in atmospheric chemistry at the ""Akademie der Wissenschaften der DDR"" (AdW). After his habilitation in 1982 he worked as an associate at various institutes, e.g. the ""Forschungsstelle für Umweltgestaltung"" and the ""Heinrich-Hertz-Institut für Geomagnetismus und Atmosphärenforschung"". Currently he is working as a full Professor at the Brandenburgische Technische Universität, BTU (former: Technischen Universität Cottbus).
