Shugar is the author of The Chemist’s Ready Reference Handbook, also published by McGraw-Hill, and professor emeritus of engineering technologies at Essex County College, Newark, New Jersey. In 1947, Dr. Shugar founded a chemical manufacturing business that became the largest exclusive pearlescent pigment manufacturing company in the United States. In 1968, he was appointed assistant professor of chemistry at Rutgers University, where he taught until his appointment at Essex County College. Jack T. Ballinger, Ed.D., is professor of chemistry at St. Louis Community College at Florissant Valley and the author of Chemical Technician's Ready Reference Handbook, published by McGraw-Hill. Dr. Ballinger has taught chemical technology courses for the past 29 years. He is a member of the American Chemical Society's coordinating committee developing national skill standards for the chemical process industry.
