OverviewKarin, aged 14, is a geeky, clumsy girl with delusions of joining the cheerleading squad. Kala, aged 12, is a catgirl from the planet Arkaynia. Kala is a Vanguard. Vanguards belong to a mystical order called the Vanguards of the Universe, whose stated goal is to enforce justice and promote peace throughout the Universe. Upon joining, each Vanguard is implanted with an Omega Drive, a device granting godlike powers to its user. The Omega Drive is Ancient technology. The Ancients are as old as the Universe itself. They are an extinct civilization. What little is known of them is what's left of their technology, which is scattered throughout the cosmos, hidden away in long lost cities. Out to unlock the secrets of Ancient technology is Renzo Intergalactic, an evil, super powerful corporation (their claim to fame is that they control 80% of the Universe's robotics industry). Renzo Intergalactic want an Omega Drive so as to reverse engineer it. In order to do that, however, they need to capture a Vanguard and dissect them. They target Kala because she is the youngest and weakest of the Vanguards. Renzo Intergalactic attempts to kidnap Kala, but the attempt doesn't go according to plan. Kala is ambushed while in hyperspace. Her spaceship sustains damage and is sent barreling into Earth's atmosphere, whereupon she crash lands on the outskirts of San Juarez, a city in Southern California. As luck would have it, Karin happens to be within the vicinity. Although, she wish she wasn't, because Kala is being pursued by seven-foot-tall killer robots. In the ensuing battle, Karin is fatally injured. Kala attempts to use her special powers to heal Karin, but being a novice, Kala fouls it up. An anomaly occurs, causing the Omega Drive to transfer into Karin, endowing her with all the strength and abilities of a Vanguard. Karin, in a totally selfish move, uses her new-found powers to join the cheerleading squad and become super popular at school. Kala, to her chagrin, is forced to tag along on Karin's selfish pursuits until she can find a way to get her Omega Drive back. Kala uses a holographic disguise to turn herself human (she poses as a Japanese exchange student), and accompanies Karin to school; fish-out-of-water shenanigans ensue. In the meantime, Renzo Intergalactic sends robots after Karin and Kala, and the U.S. government is also very keen on getting their hands on the girls. Karin and Kala, who are initially wary of each other, must see past their differences and work together in order to survive.
