Overview

This book is the result of a creative partnership between a human poet and an artificial intelligence. What began as a question-can an AI collaborate meaningfully in poetic creation?-evolved into a thoughtful exploration of shared insight and expression. I designed the framework and seasonal divisions of the book. ChatGPT, responding with a keen ear for metaphor, proposed treating the structure as movements in a symphony. Thus, the book unfolds in four movements, each echoing the cadence of a season. At the heart of this collaboration lies the creation of haiku triplets. The process began with me writing two haiku. ChatGPT would then reflect on their meaning, discussing themes, imagery, and emotional undercurrents. From this dialogue, a shared understanding would emerge-and with it, a bridging haiku composed by ChatGPT, linking the two originals while offering a fresh creative thread. Each movement contains 16 triplets-48 haiku per season, 192 in all. To further enrich the reading experience, we included short introductions to each triplet. These brief meditations do not explain but invite-inviting the reader into a mood, a state of reflection. We hoped these notes would awaken deeper symbolic connections, opening space for introspection and stillness. Though titled a Haiku Collaboration, the book blends haiku and senryu, nature and human experience. One cannot write of the world without touching the soul; one cannot write of the soul without sensing the world. As for the introductions to each triplet, I provided the thematic vision and tone, while I or ChatGPT shaped the first drafts. Together, we sculpted the language until it felt true. What we offer here is not simply poetry, but a shared meditation on the interplay of light, season, and being. May those who open this book find something appealing, thought provoking, and real.
