Chasing the Wind

Overview

Chasing the Wind transports you to the world of yacht captains, delivering boats from A to B and sometimes C, safely and without loss of life. Have no misconceptions, life at sea, aboard a boat, no matter how large or small, is a life changing experience. There is nothing like being the only person awake at the wheel with a billion stars for your roof and an ocean swell to remind you that you and your shipmates sleeping below are but a chip of wood on the limitless ocean. Chasing the Wind recounts some of the life changing experiences that occur when you are far from the land, far from familiar surroundings and far from any outside help. You and you alone are responsible for your welfare. It can change you in profound ways, ways you will not really understand until you are a thousand miles offshore...

Author Information

Conrad Brown sailed for the first time at a Boy Scout Camp on Grand Lake in Oklahoma, and was hooked on sailing for life. But it was not until joining the Navy and OCS training in Newport, RI that he was able to realize his dream of salt water sailing. Years later after earning his 100 T. Coast Guard license and rebuilding his Dutch yawl Halcyon, he began a second life on the sea. Many passages followed, some short, some long, with others and alone, all building the experience and resourcefulness needed to survive long passages alone or as part of a crew. Days at sea standing watches on and off, sleeping when you can and being a good and competent shipmate is the ultimate mark of a seaman. Capt. Brown's two sons are licensed captains working as professionals, following the family's seafaring tradition of working on the water. They have expanded the history with many deliveries and experiences far exceeding their father's and they all share a love and respect for the sea and all her moods.
