I love the strong, intelligent, and witty female characters in this book. Nathalie Seeger is a freelance private investigator who feels in competition with men. Her bestie, Megan Hollister, is a graphic designer, talented but riddled with insecurity. Nathalie's career is in jeopardy because her security team botched a job guarding precious jewels that were magically stolen right out from under them during a gala event. The main male character is Eli Cross, an international master thief and the chief suspect in the heist. The dialogue sparkles. The characters are really engaging, and in this battle of wits there's a lot of humor. This is a clever story with many twists and turns. I like that it makes you think but is also an emotional rollercoaster. The romantic element builds slowly and then hits unexpectedly. It says this book is the author's first solo novel, but he's had a distinguished career writing in film & TV. I hope he writes more. This one was fun!
