Charred: A Whipped and Sipped Mystery

Overview

Murder is on the menu-served warm with muffins and lattes. At the Whipped and Sipped Café, Alene Baron knows how to handle a kitchen fire-but this blaze may burn far beyond her control. When a suspicious fire draws Alene, her loyal friend Kacey, and Kacey's boyfriend Kofi to a charred property in search of salvaged wood, they expect nothing more than a little trespassing and a lot of soot. Instead, whispers of arson swirl through their tight-knit community-and before long, a body turns up amid the ashes. Kofi fears the police will come knocking. Kacey fears someone saw them. And Alene is caught in the middle, torn between protecting the people she loves and telling the truth to her partner, homicide detective Frank. Shaw Because in this town, secrets don't stay buried. They smolder. As suspicion spreads and tensions rise, Alene must sift through half-truths, family loyalties, and long-simmering grudges to uncover what really happened the night of the fire. With her café bustling, her children and father offering heartfelt (if sometimes chaotic) support, and a community on edge, she'll need every ounce of patience-and every recipe in her arsenal-to keep things from going up in flames. Rich with mouthwatering dishes, sharp dialogue, and emotional depth, Charred serves up a mystery that's both frightful and fun-complete with a twist that will leave readers deliciously stunned. Book 3 in the Whipped and Sipped Cozy Culinary Mystery Series

Reviews

A very entertaining book that was quite a refreshing change from the usual fare."" - Reader review ""...frightful and fun. - A Room Full of Books I'd say that this novel is, much like one of the culinary delights at the Whipped and Sipped Cafe, a truly delicious treat that begs to be savored. -Teddy Rose Book Reviews Gottlieb has created a rich, engrossing story and had me guessing who the murderer was until the very end. I could taste the food, hear the music, and listen to the incredible conversations of her characters as the mysteries unfolded. And then she provides real recipes. What a gift. -Carol Orange, Best-Selling, Award-winning author of A Discerning Eye Part of the joy of reading this series is Alene's strong focus on the welfare of her family that includes her children and dad, all of whom help create emotional, entertaining layering to an already-intriguing murder plot that delivers a surprise ending. Highly recommended! -Christine DeSmet, author of the Fudge Shop Mystery Series This book is a wonde__rful read that makes you grateful for family, good neighbors, and good food no matter what the world throws at you! -Sharon Lynn, Author of the Cotswold Crimes Mysteries I recommend CHARRED to cozy mystery readers who enjoy culinary-themed stories, a Chicago setting, or a trip back to the summer of 2020."" -Guatemala Paula Loves to Read You'll be rewarded with actual recipes of the items the characters have created and gobbled as the mystery continues to unravel. Dig in. Chow down. Have fun. And don't take anything too seriously. -Rita Dragonette, author of The Fourteenth of September Juggling characters, relationships, and conflicts in a way that flows swiftly to a compelling conclusion is Gottlieb's special strength as a mystery writer. This is the third literary outing for Alene and her coterie, and the author strikes a confident pace with a narrative which, though complex, always moves forward. -Larry F Sommers, author of Price of Passage
