Overview

Author Lanaya Gore and illustrator Twila Farmer have brought the story of Charlotte Mason and her educational ideas to life in this vibrant, beautiful picture book. The seemingly ordinary teacher living in Victorian England inspired an extraordinary movement in education, first in her own time, and now in ours. Untold numbers of children around the world are learning according to Charlotte Mason's philosophy, both at home and in classrooms. Lanaya Gore's engaging prose and Twila Farmer's breathtaking paintings together tell the story of the woman who devoted herself to bringing worlds of wonder to children-children whom she insisted were persons of worth and potential-through a generous feast of living books and the natural world.

Reviews

The illustrations are delightful, wonderfully evoking the era in which Charlotte Mason lived, and the beauty of the Lake District of England. May this book inspire a fresh interest and appreciation for the worlds of wonder and knowledge that Miss Mason loved. --Karen Glass, author of Know and Tell and Consider This Charlotte Mason: The Teacher Who Revealed Worlds of Wonder by Lanaya Gore and illustrated by Twila Farmer is quite simply a lovely first introduction to the life of Charlotte Mason for children and parents, capturing the loveliness of the woman and the atmosphere of her life. --Cindy Rollins, author of Mere Motherhood and Morning Time: A Liturgy of Love Lanaya Gore's sharing of Charlotte Mason's life will prove a delight for both parent and child. Lanaya's evident depth of understanding paired with her ability to communicate with the younger reader beautifully depicts Charlotte's passion for life, for education, and for her own commitment to intellectual growth. Lanaya's words take the reader on a journey from Charlotte's humble beginnings in Bangor, Wales, to the more commonly discussed latter years in Ambleside; she delicately covers interesting information about Charlotte's life that anyone would find fascinating. The incredible illustrations by Twila Farmer bring definition to the story, and expression to the words. Every Charlotte Mason educator would do well to have this book on hand in their home library, and have a couple stored away for gifts! --Leah Boden, author of the forthcoming Modern Miss Mason
