OverviewWhat's worse than a homemade patchwork quilt for your tenth birthday? For Charlie, nothing. All she wants are new flowered chucks, but instead, she's stuck with the most uncool gift imaginable. Yet, when the quilt wraps around her, she feels a hug full of pure magic and inhales the scent of Grandma's sweet sugar cookies. Or did she? She's maybe, probably sure that the hug thing might have happened. And that's when things get weird. The enchanted quilt seems to have a mind of its own. It hugs Charlie, it flies around the room with Elmer, her pet guinea pig, and takes her on amazing nighttime adventures. When Charlie's grandmother dies, she and Elmer and her brother Josh set out on their own personal journeys of discovery. At first Charlie's secret nocturnal expeditions take her and Elmer around the neighborhood and to local farm, where they encounter mad dogs with an angry guard llama. Josh fights his own demons, mostly on-line, his keyboard clickety clacking with fury. Charlie and Elmer's supernatural ventures take them further and further from their familiar world. In the end, they whoosh across the ocean and find a joyful Grandma painting in the city square. Or do they? Is Charlie's quilt a gateway to new realms, or is she just dreaming her way to a happier reality? Full Product DetailsAuthor: Elizabeth R Lederer , Elizabeth R LedererPublisher: E. R. I confess I looked carefully at each drawing before I even started reading the book. There are so many small details to be discovered that I found myself returning again and again just for the thrill of making new discoveries. The vibrant colors and dreamy landscapes are magical. This is not a book that will be read once and simply put aside - it is one you will pick up again and again to admire the drawings and feel a sense of wonder at the beauty of the world created by E. R. Lederer."" - Peter Rand ""My favorite part of the book was whenever Elmer left on the magic quilt and he had his goggles and backpack. Also when he had his beret. You did a really good job and I hope you write a sequel!"" - Karina Bathrick ""This was a good book. My favorite part was when Elmer had his own goggles, helmet and backpack."" - Caroline Anderson ""My favorite part was when they talk to horses and helped save the baby foal."" - Reiss Anderson ""First off, you are an excellent writer and your descriptions make me feel like I am actually present in the story...I love the characters of Charlie and Elmer and their interactions. The story line is interesting and stimulating...I think it opens the imagination of the age group that will be reading this book. Talking about Grandmother's death and its effect on the family is also touching and kids can relate to it in their own lives...The pictures you did are fantastic!"" - Robin Regner Author InformationElizabeth started her career thinking she would be an English teacher, but by happenstance, necessity and hard work, slogged her way up the civilian workforce to become a senior Logistician and professor at a military university.
