In 1825 he alighted as the silhouette, simple and arresting, as his favoured means of art. He toured the UK and then the USA, cutting out images on black card of nobility, gentry, politicians and others of note in the professions, the military and the navy. Edouart kept copies of all his work, which reached the rare total of 100,000 silhouettes. Some were lost when he sailed back to the UK aboard the Oneida which was shipwrecked.
