Characters in the Dramatic Narratives of Robert Frost: A Psychological Study Robert Frost is one of the most beloved poets in the English language - yet the richest dimension of his work remains largely unexplored. Behind the stone walls and snowy woods lies a gallery of some of the most psychologically compelling characters in modern poetry: a grieving mother and her husband locked in irreconcilable mourning, a woman unraveling in rural isolation, a hired man returning to die in the only place he might call home. This book offers a new lens for reading these characters. Drawing on the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator (MBTI) - rooted in the personality typology of Carl Jung - Edward Edezhath applies a systematic psychological framework to Frost's dramatic dialogues and monologues, revealing how differences in personality type drive the conflicts at the heart of poems like ""Home Burial,"" ""The Death of the Hired Man,"" ""A Servant to Servants,"" and ""The Hill Wife."" The study begins with a fresh classification of Frost's narrative poetry, distinguishing personal narratives, dramatic monologues, third-person accounts, and dramatic dialogues. It then examines the New England social world that shaped these characters - a world of anomie, isolation, and slow cultural change - before moving into close readings of the poems themselves. Each chapter builds toward a comprehensive typological map of Frost's dramatic imagination: who these people are, why they cannot understand each other, and what that failure of understanding costs them. Originally submitted as a doctoral dissertation to Mahatma Gandhi University, Kottayam, this study has been extensively revised and expanded for a general readership. No prior knowledge of psychology is assumed. It is addressed to anyone who loves Frost's poetry and wants to understand it more deeply - and to anyone curious about what personality psychology can reveal when brought into serious conversation with literature.
