OverviewAluminium 2024 alloy based hybrid metal matrix composites reinforced with silicon carbide (SiC) and fly ash (FA) were fabricated using the stir casting technique to improve mechanical properties and reduce weight. Different weight fractions of SiC and FA were added, and the composites were evaluated for tensile strength, Brinell hardness, and density. Density was measured using the Archimedes principle, while tensile and hardness tests were conducted using standard methods. The results showed that the addition of SiC and FA significantly improved tensile strength and hardness, while density decreased due to the low density of fly ash. The hybrid composite with 5% SiC and 5% FA exhibited the best performance, with a tensile strength of about 290 N/mm², hardness of about 94 BHN, and density of about 2.09 g/cm3. These improvements are attributed to the load-bearing ability of SiC and the weight-reducing effect of fly ash. The study indicates that Al2024-SiC-FA composites are suitable for lightweight and high-strength aerospace and automotive applications.
