Overview

Character Education Through Stores Music and Imagery encourages children to recognize and grow their own character traits. This book includes 20 stories, relaxation exercises, and short pieces of classical music. Included is a guide for teachers, parents, counselors, therapists, and program directors, with clear directions on how to use the Stories, Music, and Imagery process with children. The children listen to an original story, learn a relaxation technique to quiet their body and mind, focus their attention during reflective time to a short piece of beautiful classical music, then write, draw, or verbally share their experience. This process gives children a chance to express what the story means to them and how that character trait is present in their life. Ten stories for younger children explore character traits of beauty, clearing, cooperation, confidence, friendship, growth, honesty, patience, support, and trust. Ten stories for older children explore the character traits of acknowledgement, appreciation, choice, communication, expression, focus, gratitude, persistence, possibilities, and respect. The Stories, Music, and Imagery process brings together the power of the story, benefits of relaxation, clarity of focused attention, beauty of music, wisdom of the child, and support from the adult.

Reviews

Linda received a Be Inspired Grant from the Tryon Fine Arts Council to bring Character Education through Stories, Music, and Imagery to each classroom. Linda shared with my class. It was very beneficial for the children, and they enjoyed it. One of the most important lessons taught in kindergarten is living in community. Linda Powell's class on honesty taught with story, reflective time, and music at an age-appropriate level helped them to understand the concept as well as the importance of honesty.Julie MaziarkaKindergarten teacherSunny View Elementary School The transition from story and relaxation technique can help children to explore, dare to fight in unknown situations, or provide a chance to meet something they love again.Shanaree Laohapongphan, PhDPrivate therapist/School counselor Linda is gifted in being able to teach kids about tapping into the heart through her gentle, fun, and original stories. As a parent of two school-age kids, I struggle to find resources that complement and support what we have made a priority to teach our kids. They have great teachers in school for academics, but there is a gap in teaching the core of being integrated, whole, and contributing in a positive way. Linda's book helps fill that gap and supports the kids to remember what is really important in life, a connection with our hearts.Connie Baglia, RN Mother of two bright spirited kids
