CHAOS: May there yet be hope, is poetry for the times we live in. Previously of Neopoet acclaim, Karen J Burns bursts onto the scene with her first whole collection of poetry. This lyricism, which often verges on the dark side but is also witty or sarcastic on some occasions, takes us on a journey from chaos to hope. A bitter pill to swallow? Yet relatable without a doubt. Like Marmite, you may love or hate the emotions displayed within: from anger, fear, jealousy, frustration, sorrow, despair and rage to excitement, anticipation, amusement, joy and hope. This Chaos-inspired collection is a roller-coaster ride, full speed ahead. Next stop? Depends on how you see things. Although nobody was hurt in the writing of these poems, you may want to throw something at the TV (whilst watching the news). Or perhaps not. Poetry, whilst emotive, cathartic and inspiring, should also encourage critical thinking. Karen J Burns compiled these poems to encourage others to look at the world around them, to think about how they feel; and then would like to leave readers with some positivity (to help them to find a way of coping with all the chaos). Perchance you recognise the chaos swirling; yet do you see the hope? For our future is yet to be written, and we are the authors of that story. Karen J Burns is a graduate of sociology, who channels her emotions and sociopolitical knowledge into her poetry. She started seriously writing poetry in 2021, just as the pandemic was calming down. Poetry became a cathartic way for her to express her view of the world we live in. It has helped her to make sense, in her own way, of this chaos. Karen J Burns is a Christian, with chronic illness, who strongly believes that there is always hope, no matter how dark our world may be.
