The best moment was seeing a young man accept Jesus as his Savior. Dr. Kim Rogers Champions for Christ is a clear, effective method in which a group of passionate, concerned individuals made an impact in their community. When you read and apply these methods, you can make an impact in your community, too. And together we can leave a legacy for Christ for the next generation. Adam Davis, Author & Speaker During my 15 plus years on the Alabama State School Board, I have grown increasingly concerned about what is being taught today in our schools, especially in literature and social studies classes as well as in the assigned reading books at all grade levels. Meghan Gurdon, children's book reviewer for the Wall Street Journal, said in a speech at Hillsdale College in 2013 that too many books for adolescents now reflect hideously distorted portrayals of life. She believes parents should steer their children away from books about sex, horror and degradation towards books that make aesthetic and moral claims. She knows how much the content of books matters: they tell children what to expect, what life and culture are, and how we are expected to behave. She explained that books don't just cater to tastes; books actually form tastes and create norms. Gordon ended her speech by quoting the Apostle Paul in Philippians 4:8: Whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, pure, lovely, admirable. If anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things. Mrs. Gurdon advised those who buy books for children to consider these things at Christmas and birthdays. And I strongly believe those who select books and other reading materials for classrooms should also share the parents' concerns for the students' character and well-being. Children have always learned from stories, whether they read them on their own or heard them. And what could be better for a child than to hear a true, uplifting personal story told by a respected person from the child's own community, a leader who cared enough to come to the school to tell the story in person. I believe this book will be invaluable to other Champions who wish to share Christ's message with the students in their schools.
