OverviewThe author of Cesiones is a practicing lawyer, a student of the plastic and photographic arts, a lover of literature and a regular polo player. Originally from Havana, Cuba, where he was exiled along with his family in 1959, he has treasured in this work experiences that are especially interesting because of his human depth and his peculiar circumstances. Gather here a beautiful compendium of shared and preserved events that as a whole are undoubtedly a valuable heritage that if not consigned to the written page, would be doomed to oblivion. Cesiones intends to shield from the corrosive effect of time real experiences charged with the meaning of life of some Cubans who, after refusing to live under communism, resumed their life in foreign lands. They are memories, values and traditions that as faithful companions made the journey to exile and helped create new joys and new pains and, as an existential witness, leave behind a trail of meaning instead of a disconcerting void. The desire has been to publish them before the disappearance of an entire generation erases that part of the historical memory that is only transmissible orally. These stories, unveiled here, are called to complement the historical memory of new generations of Cubans, wherever they live. Cesiones is the second work of Mario G. De Mendoza, III. The first, titled P'Alla and P'Aca, was written and published in 2005 shortly after he returned from his first and only trip back to his homeland after an absence of almost half a century. At the time the author resides in Wellington, Florida where he holds a law degree and where, accompanied by his wife, Jackie, he enjoys his books, his works of art and his horse farm.
