OverviewInternational ceremony at CERN, the huge research facility near Geneva, Switzerland, on a beautiful, bright morning. The American President, the first female elected to that position, is present to make a major financial contribution to the research activities at CERN and honor the major new experiment of the Large Hadron Collider that will take place later in the morning. The US President is making a strong statement of support by having her Marine Honor Guard, Silent Drill Team, and Drum and Bugle Corps in attendance. Suddenly: Supersonic boom. Ultrasonic sound waves. Things go black. The President and those closest to her are displaced to a forest - hundreds of miles away. The 288 people have also been displaced in time. To the past: 2000 years earlier. This was when Rome's Legions were about to experience the largest military defeat in history - The Battle of Teutoburg Forest - Where Rome lost over four legions of some 25,000 Legionaries, all at the hands of somewhat primitive but ruthless Germanic tribesmen. The American Marine Major, who was in charge, attempts to lead all personnel, including the President, back to where they thought CERN would be over 2,000 years later and then, somehow, send a signal that they were there - and all the while attempting to fend off the Germanic tribesmen and some of the Romans. It was also essential to avoid getting between these two warring parties, surviving, and returning home to their time.
