Overview

A psychological study was conducted on the feelings of mothers of children with cerebral palsy (CP), with the aim of understanding, identifying, and analyzing these feelings in order to contribute to the improvement of psychological intervention practices in direct care for mothers in this situation. This is a qualitative descriptive study. Data collection was carried out at the institution. The results were divided into two categories that revealed the mothers' feelings about the diagnosis and their current feelings about their child's disability, and twenty-seven subcategories with feelings. However, after the initial disruption, the mothers are still adapting to their new reality. The mothers gave up their professional and personal lives to care for their children. They demonstrated a need for family and psychological support, as well as support from their children's treatment institutions. It became clear that each mother has a unique way of living her daily life with her child with cerebral palsy. However, they all share the same needs, concerns, and even difficulties.
