Author Information

Brought up in South Wales, Miles lived in Pembrokeshire for 22 years before moving to the Isle of Man in 2002. He has a life-long interest in ferries and in 1989, with business partner John Hendy, created Ferry Publications now acknowledged as one of Europes leading specialist shipping industry publishers. Miles has followed the progress of Brittany Ferries since those very early days in 1973, having sailed on all of the companys ships and routes and still a devotee and regular passenger today. In the process he has amassed a vast collection of photographs and other memorabilia, and is himself a very accomplished photographer, his work for the travel industry taking him to many parts of the British Isles and Europe. John Hendy was raised and educated in Dover and grew up within the sight of some of the finest short-sea vessels ever built. He published his first ship history in 1965 and since then has written extensively about the industry. In 1996, John was awarded a Masters degree by the University of London for his thesis which has since been published as Ferry Port Dover.Taking early retirement from a career in teaching, he is now able to devote more of his time to writing and lives with his wife on Romney Marsh in Kent.
