Cell Chemistry and Physiology: Part III

Overview

""Principles of medical biology"" a holistic treatment of the main medical disciplines. The basic sciences including most of the achievements in cell and molecular biology have been blended with pathology and clinical medicine. The subject matter covered in preclinical and clinical courses have been reduced by almost one-third without sacrificing any essentials of a sound medical education. This base thus represents an integrated core curriculum. Volume 4C is part of a quartet devoted to cell chemistry and physiology. The first section consists of five chapters relating to the nature of membrane transport systems. Chapter 6 deals with oxidase control of plasma membrane proton transport while chapter 7 addresses the question of how cell volume is regulated. The subjects of medical imaging and NM of cell metabolism are discussed at length in two separate chapters followed by a study of the thermodynamic instrument - the calorimeter. The last chapter provides an account of equilibrium and non-equilibrium thermodynamics and the enthalpy balance method.
