OverviewThese pages were written three years before the events recorded in The Book of Giants. At the time of their writing, Fenris of Ethria had not yet crossed Badger Pass, had not yet met Respendial of Ravenlann, nor witnessed the withdrawal of the Empire from the heartlands of Gänor. He was not yet tempered by war, nor burdened by command. He was, instead, newly chosen for study at the Hall of Druids upon Elflock Island and uncertain of what that calling required. The entries that follow were kept at the urging of his brother Urion and begun on the night of his departure from Lacomyth. What was first intended as a simple record of travel and instruction became, over time, an account of a world poised upon the edge of change. Within these early pages one may glimpse the quiet before the storm - the labor of monks in Dimlorea, the lessons of the old tongues, the watch kept along the coasts, and the distant signs of unrest that would later unfold across Gänor and beyond. Though these journals do not recount the battles described in The Book of Giants, they form the ground from which those events arose. They reveal the shaping of a mind and spirit before they were tested. The mountain stands, the sea moves, and in their meeting the first intimations of upheaval appear. What follows is not the chronicle of a hero at war, but the testimony of a young novice learning to listen - to stone, to scripture, and to the shifting winds that carried the shadow of empires toward his homeland.
