Table of ContentsReviewsThis new series of books features twenty of the best landscapes, coastlines, castles, river and mountain views in a handy pocket size. Each image has an extended caption which gives the reader an insight and background to the picture. Individually or as a set, these books are great little souvenirs of Wales. At only £2.99 a book these are ideally placed for point of sale displays in bookshops, gift shops and Tourist Information Centres. -- Publisher: Graffeg This little book features twenty-two of the castles of Wales. It includes many very fine images of them (most, not surprisingly, supplied by CADW) and sets them in their landscapes. The selection gives a good range of styles from the stark simplicity of Dolwyddelan and majesty of Conwy to the Tudor domesticity of Gwydir and the gothic fantasy of Castell Coch. The page notes by Rhodri Owen give some information on the history, construction and significance of each building. There is a map and also a list of useful websites but a little more indication of location and access would be good as this series is very much aimed at the tourist market. There is an understandable bias in this selection towards the more complete structures and those with attractive interiors (hence Castell Coch is well-represented). Castles of Wales does provide a good, quick-reference handbook for the visitor which is pleasant to use and a beautiful souvenir to take home. -- Caroline Clark @ www.gwales.com Author InformationRhodri Owen is the author of Coast Wales and Mountain Wales.
