Overview

The project ""Ukrainian Architectural Attractions. Heritage"" is a non-commercial initiative. It was launched to preserve information about architectural landmarks through the documentary photo-fixation of sites that are often on the verge of disappearance or destruction. The project also highlights monuments currently under restoration or already restored, religious buildings, and other historical landmarks across Ukraine. Each of us should know and remember the beauty and history of our country-be it the ruins of a fortress or a restored castle, an ancient wooden church or a stone cathedral, the remains of a synagogue or a crumbling palace. This is our shared history, for which the state currently lacks both the focus and the funds. As there are yet few philanthropists or patrons among the ""elite,"" it is only through the contributions of local communities and dedicated travelers that many of these sites are kept from total decay. The objects photographed are most often those in a state of ruin or gradual vanishing; thus, photography remains the only medium capable of capturing them for future restoration efforts and for our collective memory. This is the debut book in the part of the project focusing on Ukrainian castles and fortresses.
