Sherri Hildebrand, MEd, MS, is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and an Instructional Assistant Professor at Illinois State University in Normal, IL, where she teaches courses in Therapeutic Recreation and Recreation Management. Sherri has been an educator in higher education since 1983 at several institutions in the state of Illinois and Iowa. In 2010, she co-founded and served as the Program Director for a nonprofit organization, SportAbility of Iowa, to serve the recreation and leisure needs of people with physical disabilities throughout eastern Iowa. In 2105, with the assistance of her therapeutic recreation students and Campus Recreation, she started Adaptapalooza, an annual adaptive sports event for the ISU community to advocate for sports participation for people with physical disabilities. Rachel E. Smith, MS, is a Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist and an Instructional Assistant Professor at Illinois State University in Normal, IL, where she teaches courses in Therapeutic Recreation and Recreation Management. Rachel has a background in inclusion in public parks and recreation and is a longtime disability advocate. She has served on various committees to advance the rights of persons with disabilities. She has a research interest in universal design, social justice, and inclusion in higher education. Rachel and her husband, Chris, live with their sons, Brady and Kellan, and two fur babies in Normal. Rachel enjoys learning and continues to take courses, attend, and present at conferences and join in workshops and webinars whenever possible. She volunteers with a SOAR and Healing Rides.
