He began working in the steel mill on a production line upon graduating form high school. He spent four years in the United States Navy during the time of the Korean War. Upon discharge resumed working at the steel mill and continued there until receiving a secondary teaching certificate. Dr. Carich began his college career in 1964 and graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a Bachelor of Science Degree in psychology, sociology and education 1968. As he continued his education, he left the steel mill and began teaching psychology, sociology and family relation at Ritenour High School for five years while finishing a Masters Degree in Counseling from Southern Illinois University in 1969. He was awarded the Doctor of Philosophy Degree from St. Louis University in 1973. He continued working as a counseling psychologist at Ritenour High School for three years. He left the High school and went into full time private for the next thirty years. He has also taught at eleven universities. Dr. Carich also completed a Masters Degree in Business Administration from Lindenwood University at St. Charles, Missouri in 1983. He has teaching and counseling certification in Illinois and Missouri. He is a licensed Psychologist and Mental Health Provider in Missouri and a licensed Clinical Professional Counselor in Illinois. He has certification with the National Board Certified Counselors as a National Certified Counselor and a Certified Clinical Mental Health Provider. Dr. Carich is a Fellow and Diplomat in the Academy of Family Psychologist, Inc., 1994. He is also a Fellow with the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis 1982. He received the Sliver Beaver and Wood Badge award from Boy Scouts of America. He has published eight times and retired from private practice in 1998.
