Overview'Carlos Cruz-Diez: Colour Happens' is the title of the first individual Spanish exhibition, an official institution, dedicated to the work of Carlos Cruz-Diez (Caracas, 1923). His work has been present in the greatest European exhibitions dedicated to Kinetic Art since the 60's, as well as in the most important collective exhibitions devoted to Latin American art. Carlos Cruz-Diez has worked in many of the most dignified museums worldwide, including, Musee National d'Art Modern Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris, of which loaned works of Cruz-Diez for this exhibition, as with the private Foundation Allegro, the Altelier Cruz-Diez and MUGAB (Diputation of Alicante). Carlos Cruz-Diez graduated from the School of Fine and Applied Arts in Caracas. From 1946 until 1951 he worked in graphic design. During 1955 and 1956 he travelled through Paris and Barcelona to continue his investigations on colour. Returning to Caracas, he created his own design studio. In 1958 he was in charge of design classes in the Cristobal Rojas School of Fine Arts. In 1959 he created his first Physicromie and returned to Paris, where he has been based since then. There Cruz-Diez integrated in the group Nouvelle Tendence, name, thus giving the title for an exhibition realized the same year in Zagreb, Yugoslavia, and where Cruz-Diez also participated with his Physicromie.
