OverviewAfter a devastating end to an engagement, Mary Wittmer finally finds contentment as a live-in caregiver for Dinah, an elderly woman in the Amish community. Mary tends to the household but becomes frustrated with the ragged condition of the property. Despite fixing what she can, the house and outbuildings need carpentry work. After Mary falls off a ladder, Dinah requests help from her grandson. Joel Rupp is an angry young man. Having been falsely blamed for a rebellion in the district regarding the use of modern tractors, he flees to Pennsylvania to live as an Englisher. When Joel receives a letter from Mammi, he doesn't recognize the handwriting. Suspicious, he heads back to Rock Point, Ohio. Upon arrival, Joel attempts to dismiss Mary. He doesn't trust her, and they don't need her there. But Dinah insists that Mary stay. In the following weeks, Joel's hot and cold behavior confuses Mary. Then Dinah falls ill, forcing Joel and Mary to put aside their differences and work together. The attraction between them becomes undeniable, but Mary is determined to keep her feelings at bay. Joel no longer belongs among the Amish, and the last thing Mary wants is another heartbreak. But Joel is contemplating something that could change everything.
