OverviewThe Mosquito was an unarmed bomber with a crew of two, able to carry a bigger bombload farther than a B-17. It was also a fighter-bomber and a night fighter with an eight-gun nose battery. Gordon Panitz and Richard (Dickie) Williams were a successful intruder crew with 456 Squadron RAAF in 1943, with sorties over the Bay of Biscay and France during which they attacked aircraft, trains, electrical power stations, and other targets. Panitz commanded the squadron Ranger Flight for operations over the Bay of Biscay.
