OverviewJamie Griffin is a private investigator based in Dorchester, a suburb of Boston. He has come through the darkness of a mysterious disabling illness, which cost him not only his career as a police detective, but nearly his own life and the lives of his loved ones. Jamie has begun rebuilding a new life, both personally, as he mends family relationships, and professionally, as the head of his own private investigation firm, Griffin, Lombardi & Lopes or GL3. His partners in the firm are former gangster Louie Lombardi, plus Daphné and Darcelle Lopes, twin sisters who are technical and mechanical wizards. However, after six months of nothing but mundane divorce cases, custody cases, and missing persons cases, Jamie and his partners are starting to feel like the agency was a mistake. They are bored to death by the mundane cases and sordid details that accompany those cases. The four begin to bicker constantly, and Jamie finds himself wondering if it's time to dissolve their partnership. Adding to this stress, Jamie must try to discover the source of rumors that are damaging his wife, Eileen's music business and identify the person behind a blackmail scheme threatening Anthony O'Connor, the Griffin's parish priest. Meanwhile, less than a hundred miles to the west, an ancient drama is finally approaching its dénouement: Brother Francis Foley, a monk at Clonfert Monastery is being slowly corrupted by an ancient enemy of his religious order, St. Brendan the Traveler. Some would call this enemy mythical, but the threat is all too real: endangering not only Foley's life and the lives of his monastic brothers, but potentially the lives of many thousands of people. Life for GL3 gets interesting after Jamie accepts another missing person case, but one that takes the team 'down the rabbit hole': Liam McCarthy is a friend-of-a-friend - and also a prominent member of the Irish Mob. McCarthy comes to Jamie and asks him to put aside their differences to help McCarthy find Ciara, his missing seventeen-year-old daughter. After Jamie agrees, he discovers a personal stake in this case: one of his daughters, Caitlin, also goes missing. Solving this case will lead GL3 into a collision of disparate worlds as they try to find Ciara McCarthy and Caitlin Griffin - religious monasticism, the Boston underworld, and the supernatural. The result is not only more shocking and deadly than they expected but also offers a lesson into the nature of divine forgiveness.
