Overview

Individuals 65 years of age or older currently account for over eighty percent of all cardiovascular disease-related deaths. With advances and breakthroughs in modern medicine that are allowing people to live longer, the number of older adults in this country will continue to grow exponentially over the next several decades. Cardiologists, geriatricians, and other clinicians caring for the elderly will require-at the very least-a basic understanding of cardiovascular disorders that commonly affect the older patient. In the Fourth Edition of this classic text, each chapter has been thoroughly updated to provide a comprehensive, yet readable overview of the epidemiology, pathophysiology, evaluation, and treatment of cardiovascular disorders in older adults. Cardiovascular Disease in the Elderly: provides an in-depth discussion of the elderly patient in the clinical setting considers the impact of multiple coexisting conditions, frailty, polypharmacy, and patient preferences in optimizing disease management each chapter written by recognized experts in the evaluation and management of older individuals with cardiovascular disease
