Overview

Cardiology refers to the study of the diseases affecting heart and blood vessels. It is concerned with normal heart function and any deviations from a healthy heart. Many disorders affect the heart itself; whereas, some diseases occur outside of the heart and in the vascular system. These disorders include therosclerosis, aneurysm, stenosis, cardiomyopathy, high blood pressure, endocarditis, atrial fibrillation, and heart rhythm disorders. Cardiologists provide continual care to patients with cardiovascular diseases by performing certain diagnostic tests, and overseeing all the aspects of therapy including the administration of medications.
