Professor Yi-Ming Wei is an expert in energy and environmental systems engineering, who has long been engaged in scientific research, engineering practice, and higher education in the fields of carbon emission reduction and global climate governance. He currently serves as the Director of the Beijing Laboratory for Carbon Neutrality Systems Engineering and a Distinguished Professor at Beijing Institute of Technology. As the primary contributor, he has won several scientific and technological awards, including the First Prize of the Natural Science Award of the Ministry of Education, the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the Ministry of Education, the First Prize of the Science and Technology Progress Award of the China Coal Industry Association, and the Gold Prize at the 50th Geneva International Exhibition of Inventions. He has also received the National First Prize for Teaching Achievements and the National Second Prize for Excellent Textbook. Professor Wei has been honored with the Guanghua Engineering Science and Technology Award, the National Innovation and Dedication Award, the State Council Government Allowance, the National Outstanding Science and Technology Researcher Award, the China Youth Science and Technology Award, and the Beijing Outstanding Teacher Award. In 2004, he was awarded the National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars; in 2008, he became a Cheung Kong Scholars Program Distinguished Professor of the Ministry of Education; and he was selected as a leading talent in the national high-level talent program. As an academic leader, he has led the approval of the Basic Science Center of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (2024) and the Innovative Research Group (2015). He has published 7 papers in four Nature sub-journals, including Nature Climate Change and Nature Energy. More than 30 of his papers have been selected as Global Highly Cited Papers (ESI), with a cumulative number of over 20,000 citations and an h-index of 110 (Google). He has been continuously recognized as a Global Highly Cited Scientist since 2018. Additionally, Professor Wei serves as the Vice President of the Operations Research Society of China and was elected a Fellow of the Operations Research Society of China in 2022. He was invited to serve as a Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for the ""Energy Systems"" section in Working Group III of the 6th Assessment Report of the United Nations Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). He is the Founding Editor-in-Chief of the Elsevier journal Energy & Climate Change, a former Honorary Professor at University College London, and was elected a Fellow of the German National Academy of Science and Engineering (Acatech) in 2023.
