Author InformationRoberto de Franchis, MD, AGAF is Professor of Medicine (Gastroenterology) at the University of Milan in Italy, and Head of the Gastroenterology 3 Unit at the IRCCS Ca' Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation in Milan. Professor de Franchis has been working with capsule endoscopy since 2001, has written several papers on the topic, and has co-chaired with Dr. Blair Lewis at several ICCE Faculty meetings. Blair S. Lewis, MD, FACP, FACG, FASGE is a board-certified gastroenterologist in solo private practice in New York City. Dr. Lewis graduated from Dartmouth College in Hanover, NH and attended Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Bronx, NY. He completed his residency in internal medicine at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY and his fellowship in gastroenterology at Mount Sinai Medical Center in New York, NY, where he continues to practice. He is a clinical professor of medicine at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine. He is past president of the New York Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy and the New York Academy of Gastroenterology. He served on the Board of Governors of the American College of Gastroenterology for 6 years. Dr. Lewis has written over 72 scientific papers and 27 chapters, and he has authored 3 books-all in the field of gastrointestinal endoscopy. He is listed in the Best Doctors of America and has been listed as one of the best one hundred doctors in Manhattan. He has appeared on numerous television programs including NBC and CBS Nightly Newscasts, ABC's 20/20, and NBC's The Today Show. He was the primary investigator for the first clinical trial of capsule endoscopy for the small intestine and was also the primary investigator for the first clinical United States trial for the colon capsule. He has taught courses on capsule endoscopy including advanced courses both nationally and internationally. He has chaired the International Conference of Capsule Endoscopy annually and coordinated the Consensus Conference statements to guide capsule usage. He was one of the authors of the technical document behind the AGA position statement concerning occult and obscure gastrointestinal bleeding. Daniel S. Mishkin, MD, CM, FRCP(C) is a proud father of 3 girls and dedicated husband and physician. He graduated from McGill University Medical School in Montreal, Canada, and continued his postgraduate training at McGill University, where he completed his internal medicine residency at the Jewish General Hospital. He then ventured south of the border to complete his training for his fellowship in gastroenterology at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY, part of the Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Post-training, he joined the Division of Gastroenterology at Boston University in Boston, MA, and later Granite Medical Group in Quincy, MA. His work on integrating new technologies such as CT and MR enterography, capsule endoscopy, and deep enteroscopy has lead to his involvement as a reviewer for multiple journals, a clinical consultant for NASA-related gastroenterology projects, an invited speaker at numerous conferences, and an active member in the gastrointestinal associations including the creation of the ASGE learning DVD on small bowel imaging.
