Capitalism and Development provides an outline to the main concepts of capitalist theories of development. It seeks to clarify both its theory and history. It also presents a series of critiques of the main problems that capitalist development still has to solve around the world. The book includes an examination of key sectors of capitalist development: electronics automobiles agribusiness apparel cross-cutting areas of commodity chains and women's work These chapters ask if capitalism cannot ""develop the Third World"" through these industries, then how can it do so at all? The contributors argue that not even the most enthusiastic proponents of the capitalist road to development would argue that capitalism has solved all its problems in the Third World.
