OverviewA few years ago, I was working as a volunteer youth group leader and gave a message to the Club of high school students meeting in the home of one of the kids. The parents were present, as was normal, and they heard me give the Club Talk which usually lasts about fifteen minutes. In the lesson, I explained that God loves all of his creatures, even the demons. The point I was making to the kids, was that if God even loves the demons, then there was nothing they could ever do which was so bad that God would not love them anymore. The parents were quite shocked by this idea, and later called the area supervisor, who subsequently called me to have lunch with him. He explained the parent's objection, and why he thought I had stepped over the line. I asked him, Don't you think God loves the Devil? He replied to me, very emphatically, No! I think God hates the Devil! To which I replied, God is love. (Emphasis on is love. ) He had obviously never thought this through before. If God is love, how can he hate anyone? This story reveals much about the church's attitude toward Satan and the demons: they are not just unclean, they are unredeemably evil.
